1) That brand new laptop and printer: A lot of authors need to upgrade their laptops at some time, however really most "upgrade" each year. Not that this is a bad thing, Books to read before you die but if you were to buy an affordable laptop, this would be $200 a year, very little if you are a recognized author, a great deal of money for a new writer.
I understand. I was a magazine editor for 25 years and freelanced with authors and publishers, yet I was scared to compose my own stories. I just choked. I 'd start to write happily, with a sensation of "at last." However within 2 weeks, I 'd put down my note pad and offer up. I didn't call it quiting, of course. I told myself writing was low on my list of concerns.
I don't see any point in going to those publishing conferences. They're simply for socializing. That holds true. You can get a great deal of information at publishing conferences and author's group conferences, but mainly they have to do with socializing. They are an opportunity for publishers and authors to get together and share information, to brainstorm, to connect, to offer each other concepts and make each other mindful of chances. Networking is actually about making pals. The more friends you have, the more people who will be talking about your book, and the more books you will offer, so get to that publishing conference and socialize, interact socially, socialize!
